Saxbys is a type of restaurant on the East Coast of the United States. It's known for being a "benefit corporation," which means it aims to do good for society and the environment, not just make money. Its main office is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. How Did Saxbys Begin?
Saxbys started in 2005, thanks to Nick Bayer. It first opened in Denver, Colorado, but soon grew to include the Philadelphia area.
Overcoming Challenges
In 2009, Saxbys faced some big challenges. The company had to work through difficulties with former business partners. Even with these problems, Saxbys kept opening new stores, like one in Center City, Philadelphia. Nick Bayer said that the company was rebuilt into "something we all believe in."
New Headquarters and Learning Programs
In September 2015, Saxbys moved its main office from Broomall, Pennsylvania, to Center City, Philadelphia. Their new office is very large and even has a Saxbys shop inside.
Saxbys also runs a special program called an "experiential learning platform" with colleges and universities. These include Temple University, Rowan University, Pennsylvania State University, and Saint Joseph's University. Through this program, Saxbys has 12 cafes that are run by students on college campuses. Students can become "student CEOs" (student café executive officers). They get school credit and a salary for their work.
Where Can You Find Saxbys?
In 2014, Saxbys launched a mobile app. This app lets customers pay for their orders with their phone and earn rewards when they buy things. As of October 2015, about 35% to 40% of Saxbys locations were owned by the company itself, and the rest were run by other people as franchises.
In 2015, Saxbys bought back two of its franchised stores in Philadelphia. One was at 30th Street Station and the other was on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Both of these stores were completely updated and rebuilt.
