Schaffenaker Mountain is a beautiful, tree-covered mountain ridge located in Hampshire County, West Virginia. This county is in the eastern part of West Virginia, a state in the U.S.. The mountain is part of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, a long chain of mountains known for their parallel ridges and valleys.

Schaffenaker Mountain stretches from the southwest to the northeast. It sits between two streams: Edwards Run (which has a valley called Parks Valley around it) and Dillons Run.

What's in a Name?

The mountain gets its unique name from the Schaffenaker family. This family were some of the first people to settle and live in the area around the mountain. It's common for places to be named after the families who first made their homes there.

Great Views and New Homes

A well-known road called the Northwestern Turnpike (also known as U.S. Route 50) goes up Schaffenaker Mountain. If you travel on this road west of the town of Capon Bridge, you can get an amazing view. From here, you can see the whole town below, almost like a bird's eye view. You can also see the winding Cacapon River.

For a long time, most of Schaffenaker Mountain remained untouched by buildings. However, its fantastic views and its close distance to Capon Bridge have made it a popular spot for new homes. Companies are now developing parts of the mountain, building houses that can enjoy these beautiful surroundings.
