Schuler is a small community called a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada. It is part of Cypress County. You can find Schuler about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) east of Highway 41. It is also about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of the city of Medicine Hat.

The History of Schuler

Schuler got its name from a person named Norman Banks Schuler. He moved to the area in the spring of 1910. Later that year, he became the Post Office manager for the area.

How Schuler Helped Local Farms

The hamlet of Schuler became a helpful place for people living on nearby farms. It offered services they needed. In 1924 and 1928, large buildings called grain elevators were built. These were used to store grain from the farms. Another grain elevator was built in 1928 by the Pioneer Grain Company.

The Last Train in Schuler

In July 1997, the last train came to Schuler. It carried grain away from the two remaining elevators. Today, Schuler is home to a school that teaches students from early childhood services (ECS) up to Grade 9.
