Scott Snyder (born January 15, 1976) is a well-known American writer of comic books. He is famous for his short story collection Voodoo Heart, published in 2006. Snyder has also done a lot of work for DC Comics. This includes popular series like American Vampire, Detective Comics, and his highly praised work on Batman. He also wrote for Swamp Thing and Justice League.
Snyder is also known for creating big comic book events for DC. These include "Dark Nights: Metal" and "Dark Nights: Death Metal." Besides DC, he has created his own comics for Image Comics. Some of these are Wytches, Undiscovered Country, and Nocterra.
As part of his work at DC, Scott Snyder helped create several popular characters. These include The Batman Who Laughs, Mr. Bloom, and the Court of Owls. Critics and fans really like his work. For example, his Batman series, which started in 2011, was very popular. He has won many awards, including three Eisner Awards and a Harvey Award. He also won a 2012 Eagle Award for Best Writer.

Early Life and Inspirations
Scott Snyder was born on January 15, 1976. When he was nine, he went to a summer camp. A counselor read Stephen King's book Eyes of the Dragon to him. Snyder says this experience "really jump-started my love of story-telling." He was also inspired by other writers like Stephen King. In the world of comics, he has said that Alan Moore and Frank Miller are his favorite writers.
Snyder went to Brown University and graduated in 1998. He studied creative writing there. After college, he worked at Walt Disney World for about a year. He started as a cleaner. Later, he worked as some of the characters after an injury. Snyder says his time at Disney World really helped his writing. He learned about fears like growing up and losing loved ones. These feelings were shown in a big, cartoonish way at Disney.
After Disney, Snyder went to Columbia University. He earned a special degree in fiction writing there.

Starting Out: 2000s
Snyder's first book of stories was called Voodoo Heart. It was published in June 2006. This book got great reviews from important magazines. The New York Times also gave it a good review. Stephen King even chose two of its stories for a famous anthology in 2007.
In 2008, Snyder wrote a short story for a superhero anthology. In 2009, he started writing for Marvel Comics. He wrote a story about the first Human Torch. He also wrote a four-issue comic series called Iron Man: Noir.
Big Success: 2010s
In March 2010, Vertigo started publishing American Vampire. This was Snyder's first comic series that he owned himself. The famous writer Stephen King wrote the first five issues. American Vampire won the 2011 Eisner Award for Best New Series. It also won the 2011 Harvey Award for Best New Series.
Snyder began writing for Detective Comics in January 2011. This was when he signed a special contract with DC Comics. He also co-wrote the Batman: Gates of Gotham series.
In September 2011, DC Comics relaunched all its titles as The New 52. Snyder became the writer for Batman and a new Swamp Thing series. His Batman series was very popular with fans and critics. It gave a fresh look to the classic character. Snyder also co-wrote Talon, a spin-off from his "Court of Owls" storyline in Batman.
At the 2012 New York Comic Con, it was announced that Snyder would write a new Superman series. It was called Superman Unchained and had art by Jim Lee. This series started in June 2013. Snyder explained that he wanted to explore what he loved most about Superman.
Snyder left Swamp Thing in May 2013. He then started writing The Wake. This was a 10-issue horror series about the ocean. It was drawn by Sean Murphy. The story is about a marine biologist who finds strange creatures in the ocean. The story jumps between different time periods.
In April 2014, Snyder was one of the writers for the Batman Eternal series. A second run, called Batman & Robin Eternal, started in October 2015. During this time, Snyder and artist Jock launched Wytches at Image Comics. The movie rights for Wytches were bought by Brad Pitt's company in 2014. In 2016, Snyder worked with artist John Romita Jr. on the All-Star Batman series.
Snyder and Greg Capullo launched the Dark Nights: Metal series in August 2017. Snyder also co-wrote Justice League: No Justice. After that, Snyder relaunched the main Justice League series.
In 2018, Snyder launched the mini-series Batman and the Signal. It featured Duke Thomas as a new hero. In 2019, he and Jock launched The Batman Who Laughs. This was a spin-off from Dark Nights: Metal. In 2020, Snyder and Greg Capullo released Batman: Last Knight on Earth. They called it the "grand finale" of their New 52 Batman run. That same year, they launched Dark Nights: Death Metal, which followed Dark Nights: Metal.
Recent Work: 2020s–Present
Snyder's Image series Nocterra started in March 2021. A TV show based on Nocterra is being made by Netflix.
In July 2021, Snyder announced a deal for eight digital-first comics. These would be published through his own company, Best Jackett Press. They will also get print versions from Dark Horse Comics. The first three were We Have Demons, Clear, and Night of the Ghoul. In October 2022, it was reported that a movie based on Night of the Ghoul was being developed.
In August 2021, Snyder joined a group of creators on Substack. He publishes comics, essays, and guides for aspiring writers there.
An animated TV series based on Wytches was announced by Amazon Prime Video in February 2023. Snyder is one of the main people in charge of the show.
In July 2024, DC announced that Snyder would return to the company. He will lead "DC All In," a new project introducing characters for the Absolute Universe. Snyder will write Absolute Batman. He will also co-write DC All In Special #1.
Personal Life
Scott Snyder is married to Jeanie. They have three sons. Their youngest son was born in May 2019.
