Scottsville is a city in Allen County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is known as a "home rule-class city," which means it has the power to govern itself in most local matters. Scottsville is also the main town of Allen County. In 2020, about 4,299 people lived there.

History of Scottsville
The area where Scottsville now stands was first settled in 1797. It grew into an important stop for stagecoaches. The town was officially planned in 1816 and started in 1817. It was named after Charles Scott, who was the fourth governor of Kentucky. In the early 1800s, it was also called Allen Court House or Scottville.
Scottsville is famous as the birthplace of the Dollar General store chain. In 1945, J. L. Turner and his son, Cal Turner Sr., opened their first department store here. Later, in 1955, they began opening more stores. By 1968, they officially started the Dollar General Corporation, which now has over 15,000 stores across the country.

Mennonite Community
Scottsville is home to a special group of people called the Noah Hoover Mennonites. They are also known as "Scottsville Mennonites." This group is a branch of the Old Order Mennonites. Unlike some other groups, they didn't split off from one single church. Instead, their history involves many different groups joining and separating over time. They moved to Scottsville in 1978 from Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
Education in Scottsville
Students in Scottsville attend public schools that are part of the Allen County Schools district. This district has several schools for different age groups.

Students from ninth to twelfth grade go to Allen County-Scottsville High School. Scottsville also has a public library called the Allen County Public Library. It's a great place to borrow books and learn new things.

Scottsville has its own weekly newspaper, the Citizen-Times, which started way back in 1890. There are also two local radio stations: WVLE (99.3 FM) and WLCK (1250 AM). WVLE recently changed its music from country to a mix of popular adult songs from the last 30 years. This station, now called "The All New Love FM," also shares local news twice a day for Scottsville and Allen County.
