Sean Anthony Abbott (born 29 February 1992) is an Australian international cricket player. He plays for the Australia national cricket team in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Sean is known as a bowling all-rounder, which means he is good at both bowling and batting. He was part of the Australian team that won the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Early Life and Cricket Beginnings

Sean Abbott grew up in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia. He started playing cricket at a young age for the Baulkham Hills Cricket Club. As he got older, he moved on to play for the Parramatta District team. Sean finished his schooling at Gilroy College in Castle Hill.

Club and Franchise Cricket Career

Sean Abbott began his professional cricket journey in Australia. He made his first List A (one-day game) appearance for New South Wales on 17 October 2010. This game was against Western Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Exactly one year later, he played his first first-class cricket match against South Australia.

Playing for Sydney Teams

Sean has played for different teams in the Sydney Grade Cricket competition. He also played for both of Sydney's teams in the Big Bash League. He was with the Sydney Thunder for two seasons (2011–12 and 2012–13). Then, he joined the Sydney Sixers in the 2013–14 season and has been with them ever since.

A Difficult Time and Strong Comeback

In November 2014, during a Sheffield Shield match, a ball Sean bowled hit another player, Phillip Hughes. Sadly, Phillip passed away a few days later. This was a very tough time for Sean. Many people sent messages of support to him. Sean returned to training before Phillip's funeral. He played again in a Sheffield Shield match on 8 December 2014. In that game, he bowled very well, taking 6 wickets for only 14 runs, helping his team win.

Awards and International Leagues

In January 2015, Sean Abbott was named Australia's Young Cricketer of the Year. People saw him as a future fast bowler for the Australian team. He was also bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2015.

Sean was named the Sydney Sixers Player of the Tournament in the Big Bash League (BBL|06). He took 20 wickets in 10 games that season. He shared this award with his teammate, Daniel Hughes. In August 2017, Sean signed a new contract to stay with the Sydney Sixers for three more BBL seasons. He also played for New South Wales in the 2017–18 JLT One-Day Cup, taking the most wickets for his team (12).

In November 2020, Sean scored his first century (100 runs) in first-class cricket. This was a big achievement for him as a bowling all-rounder.

Playing in England and Other Leagues

In April 2021, Sean joined the English county team Surrey. He played for them in the T20 Vitality Blast competition and some County Championship matches. He signed with Surrey again in 2023. In 2022, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2022 Indian Premier League. He also played for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred competition in 2022.

International Cricket Career

Sean Abbott made his international debut for Australia in October 2014. He played his first Twenty20 International (T20I) match against Pakistan on 5 October 2014. Two days later, he played his first One Day International (ODI) match, also against Pakistan. He then played two more T20I matches against South Africa in November 2014.
