In his 1999 album, Concertos for Trumpet, Sergei played music that was originally written for other instruments. He adapted violin, viola, and cello concertos for the trumpet. For example, he played the famous Cello Concerto No. 1 by Haydn on the flugelhorn.
In his 2000 album, No Limit, Sergei played Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme. This piece was originally for cello and orchestra. Sergei played it on the flugelhorn. He uses a special flugelhorn made by Antoine Courtois. It has four valves, which lets him play even lower notes than a normal flugelhorn.
