Professional career
Early fights and first titles
Sergio García started his boxing journey when he was 19 years old. His first professional fight was on May 26, 2012, in Maliaño, Spain. He won that fight by knockout, which means his opponent couldn't continue. After winning his first eight fights, Sergio signed a deal with Maravillabox Promotions in 2013.
In his ninth fight, Sergio won his first professional boxing title. This was the vacant WBC Mundo Hispano super welterweight title. He won by a late TKO (Technical Knockout) against Raul Asencio. This happened in Castellón de la Plana on October 25, 2013.
Sergio then won a Spanish title. On November 29, 2014, in Torrelavega, he won the vacant Spanish super welterweight title. He defeated Jose Manuel Lopez Clavero in the third round. This win brought his record to 16 wins and no losses!
Moving up in the boxing world
Sergio continued to climb the ranks. On June 4, 2016, he fought Russian boxer Pavel Mamontov for the WBC International super welterweight title. Sergio won this fight by unanimous decision, meaning all the judges agreed he was the winner.
A year later, on June 10, 2017, Sergio took another big step. He defeated Isaac Real in Barcelona to win the WBC Silver super welterweight title. Again, Sergio won by unanimous decision. He successfully defended this title on September 22, 2017, when his opponent, Felipe Moncelli, stopped fighting in the seventh round.
Becoming European champion
Sergio was set to fight for the vacant European super welterweight title. His original opponent, Zakaria Attou, had to pull out. So, French boxer Maxime Beaussire stepped in at the last minute.
The title fight took place in Torrelavega on September 29, 2018. Sergio García won clearly by unanimous decision. The judges' scores showed he was the much better boxer.
He then agreed to defend his European title against British boxer Ted Cheeseman. This big fight happened at The O2 Arena in London on February 2, 2019. This was the first time Sergio fought outside of Spain in his professional career. Sergio hoped that winning this fight would help him get chances to fight for world titles. He did win! Sergio beat Cheeseman by unanimous decision, keeping his European title.
Sergio defended his European title again on June 22, 2019. He defeated Sergey Rabchenko by unanimous decision in Torrelavega. The judges' scores were clearly in Sergio's favor.
