Sergio García's Boxing Journey
Starting as a Professional Boxer
Sergio García began his professional boxing career when he was 19 years old. His very first fight was on May 26, 2012, in Maliaño, Spain. He won that fight by knockout, which means his opponent couldn't continue.
After winning his first eight fights, Sergio signed a deal with Maravillabox Promotions in September 2013. This was a big step for his career.
Winning Early Titles
In his ninth fight, Sergio won his first professional boxing title. This was the vacant WBC Mundo Hispano super-welterweight title. He won this title in Castellón de la Plana on October 25, 2013. He won by a late TKO, which is a technical knockout. This means the referee or doctor stopped the fight because his opponent couldn't safely continue.
Sergio continued to win and earned a Spanish title. On November 29, 2014, in Torrelavega, he won the vacant Spanish super-welterweight title. He stopped his opponent, Jose Manuel Lopez Clavero, in the third round. At this point, Sergio had won all 16 of his professional fights!
Moving Up in the Ranks
Sergio kept challenging himself. On June 4, 2016, he fought Russian boxer Pavel Mamontov for the WBC International super-welterweight title. Sergio won this fight by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges agreed that he was the winner.
A year later, on June 10, 2017, Sergio took another big step. He defeated fellow Spanish boxer Isaac Real in Barcelona. In this fight, he won the WBC Silver super-welterweight title. Again, he won by unanimous decision. He successfully defended this title on September 22, 2017, when his opponent, Felipe Moncelli, stopped fighting in the seventh round.
Becoming European Champion
Sergio García was set to fight for the vacant European super-welterweight title. His original opponent had to pull out, so Frenchman Maxime Beaussire stepped in. The fight happened in Torrelavega on September 29, 2018. Sergio won easily by unanimous decision, becoming the European champion!
Fighting Outside Spain
For the first time in his career, Sergio fought outside his home country. He defended his European title against unbeaten British boxer Ted Cheeseman in London on February 2, 2019. This was a very important fight for Sergio. He hoped that winning would help him get a chance to fight for a world title.
Sergio won the fight against Cheeseman by a clear unanimous decision. He kept his European title. He defended his title again on June 22, 2019, in Torrelavega, defeating Sergey Rabchenko by unanimous decision.
