Shawn Vere Gore (born April 12, 1987) is a retired professional Canadian football player. He was a talented wide receiver. Shawn Gore spent most of his career playing for the BC Lions. This team is part of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
He was chosen tenth overall by the Lions in the 2010 CFL Draft. However, he first signed with the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Bishop's Gaiters. Before that, he played high school football for the Newtonbrook North Stars.
Shawn Gore's Football Journey
Shawn Gore had an interesting path in professional football. He played for teams in both Canada and the United States. His career included a major championship win.
Starting with the Packers
After being drafted by the BC Lions, Shawn Gore tried out for the NFL. He signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2010. This was right after the CFL draft.
However, he was released by the Packers on August 28, 2010. He did not play in any regular season NFL games.
Playing for the BC Lions
Soon after leaving the Packers, Shawn Gore joined the BC Lions. He signed with them on September 5, 2010. He quickly showed his skills during the 2011 training camp.
His strong performance helped him earn a starting spot. He became a key receiver for the Lions. In 2011, he helped the BC Lions win the 99th Grey Cup. This is the championship game of the CFL.
On January 13, 2013, Gore decided to re-sign with the Lions. He agreed to a three-year deal. This was after he had tried out for three other NFL teams.
Shawn Gore retired from professional football on May 4, 2017. He was 30 years old at the time. On the same day, he was sworn in as a member of the Vancouver Police Department.
He played six seasons in the CFL. During his career, he caught 307 passes. He gained 3,911 yards and scored 20 touchdowns. He played in a total of 113 games.
