Sheldon is a small city located in the southern part of Vernon County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, about 435 people lived there.

History of Sheldon
Sheldon was officially started in 1881. This happened when a railroad line was built to that spot. The city was named after Sheldon A. Wright (or Wight). He owned the land where the town was built. A post office has been open in Sheldon since 1881, helping people send and receive mail.
Where is Sheldon Located?
Sheldon is found in the middle of southern Vernon County. It is just one mile north of the county line that separates Vernon and Barton counties.
The city is located on Missouri Route B. This road is one mile east of US Route 71. If you travel south, you will find Lamar about ten miles away. Going north on Route 71, you will reach Nevada, which is about eleven miles away.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Sheldon covers a total area of about 0.53 square miles (1.36 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
