Sherron Edward Wilkerson (born April 27, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and point guard. After his playing career, he became a basketball coach. In May 2022, he became the head coach at his old high school, Jeffersonville High School. He led the Jeffersonville Red Devils to a big win, a 4A State Championship in 2025. They beat an undefeated Fishers team 67–66 in overtime. This was Jeffersonville's first state title since Wilkerson played for them.

High School Basketball Journey

Sherron Wilkerson was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He started playing varsity basketball in his second year at Jeffersonville High School. He was a very athletic player who could play both shooting guard and point guard. He was known for his strong defense and teamwork.

Junior Year Success

In his junior year, Wilkerson wore number 20 and scored about 14.1 points per game. He helped his team reach the state championship finals. Although they lost that game, his skills were noticed. In September 1992, he decided to play for Indiana University after high school.

Senior Year Highlights

His senior year was very successful. He helped his team win the 1993 IHSAA state championship. During this year, he averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 assists per game. He was considered one of the best shooting guards in the country.

He was also chosen for the McDonald's All-American team in 1993. This is a special honor for top high school players. He scored no points in that game. Overall, he scored 1,140 points and made 404 assists in 83 games at Jeffersonville High.

Mr. Basketball Award

Wilkerson was first named 1993 Indiana Mr. Basketball. This award goes to the best high school basketball player in Indiana. However, the award was later given to Maurice Fuller. This happened after Wilkerson left the Indiana All-Star team during a game. He was upset about being benched by the coach. Wilkerson later agreed with the decision and said his behavior was a mistake. He was also named Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year in 1993.

College Basketball Experience

Challenges at Indiana University

Wilkerson finished his first college season playing 28 games. He averaged 3.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

He did not play in his second year because of a broken leg. This is called a medical redshirt year. He returned to play in 1995 and became a starter. He played almost 30 minutes per game. In the first 17 games of that season, he averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.

However, in January 1996, he left the team. This happened after an incident involving him and his girlfriend.
