Shiri Freda Appleby (born December 7, 1978) is an American actress and television director. She is well-known for her main roles in popular TV shows. These include Liz Parker in the science fiction drama Roswell (1999–2002). She also played Rachel Goldberg in the drama series Unreal (2015–2018).

Shiri has also been in several movies. Some of her major films are Swimfan (2002) and Charlie Wilson's War (2007). She also appeared as intern Daria Wade in the final season of the medical drama ER (2008–2009).

Early Life and School

Shiri Appleby was born in Los Angeles, California. Her mother was an actress in Israel. Shiri's family background is Jewish. She grew up in Calabasas, California. Her family kept kosher at home. She also went to Hebrew school and had a Bat Mitzvah.

Shiri finished high school in 1997. She then studied English at the University of Southern California. After two years, she got a big role in the TV show Roswell. Later, while working on Life Unexpected in 2010, she went back to school online. She earned a psychology degree from the University of Phoenix in 2012. It took her 14 months to finish while still acting.

Shiri Appleby started acting when she was only four years old. Her first jobs were in commercials for products like Cheerios. Her parents encouraged her to take acting classes. They wanted to help her overcome being very shy.

In 2010, Shiri starred in Life Unexpected. She played Cate Cassidy, a radio host. Her character's daughter, whom she had given up for adoption, suddenly became part of her life. The show ran for two seasons.

In 2012, Shiri was the main character in Dating Rules from My Future Self. She also helped produce this web series.

A few years later, she had a role in the HBO series Girls (2013). Shiri said this role helped her play different kinds of characters. Before this, she was often cast as sweet characters.

From 2015 to 2018, Shiri played the main role in Unreal. This show was about what happens behind the scenes of a reality TV dating show. Personal Life

In 2012, Shiri Appleby got engaged to Jon Shook. He is a chef and restaurant owner. They got engaged during a trip to Italy. Jon Shook owns several popular restaurants in Los Angeles. He met Shiri through his business partner's wife.

In March 2013, Shiri gave birth to their daughter. Shiri and Jon later got married. Their second child, a son, was born in December 2015.

The name Shiri means "my song" or "my poem" in Hebrew. Shiri's parents said she was like a song in their hearts when she was born.

Shiri has a scar above her left eyebrow. She got it when a neighbor's dog bit her when she was young. To get over her fear of dogs, she appeared on a TV show called Emergency Vets. She spent time with a veterinarian and even held a snake to overcome another fear. After that, she adopted a cat.
