Shoemakersville is a small town, called a borough, located in Berks County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,360 people lived there. This was a slight decrease from the 1,378 people counted in 2010.

History of Shoemakersville
Shoemakersville got its name from its first settlers, Henry and Charles Shoemaker. It used to be a busy town known for making clothes. The old Merit Underwear Company factory is an important building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
Geography and Location
Shoemakersville is in the northern part of Berks County. It sits on the east side of the Schuylkill River. The town's exact location is 40°30′0″N 75°58′9″W / 40.50000°N 75.96917°W.
The United States Census Bureau says the borough covers about 1.5 square kilometers (0.56 square miles). A small part of this area, about 0.06 square kilometers (0.02 square miles), is water.

About 92.84% of the people were White. Other groups included African American (2.97%), Native American (0.28%), and Asian (0.52%). About 6.73% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.

Businesses and Economy
In 2018, Shoemakersville had 306 businesses. The Glen-Gery Brick Corporation is a big employer. It moved its main factory to Shoemakersville in the early 1900s.
Education in Shoemakersville
Perry Elementary School is located on Fourth Street. It is one of two elementary schools in the Hamburg Area School District. Perry Elementary teaches about 380 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. There are 22 students for every teacher.
Police Services
The Pennsylvania State Police - Hamburg Barracks now provides police services for Shoemakersville. The borough used to have its own police force. It operated from 1924 until June 2006. The town council decided to stop the local police force due to money problems.
Transportation and Roads
As of 2007, Shoemakersville had about 6.58 miles of public roads. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) took care of 1.48 miles. The borough itself maintained the other 5.10 miles.
Pennsylvania Route 61 goes through Shoemakersville. It leads south about 12 miles to Reading. North of town, it goes about 4 miles to Interstate 78 and U.S. Route 22 in Hamburg.
Pennsylvania Route 662 starts at PA 61 on the east side of Shoemakersville. It heads southeast to U.S. Route 222 in Moselem Springs and Fleetwood.
The Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority (BARTA) offers bus service. Route 20 follows PA 61, connecting Hamburg, Shoemakersville, and Reading.
Passenger train service used to be available on SEPTA's Pottsville Line. Trains went to Pottsville, Reading, and Philadelphia. This service stopped in 1981. Now, the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad provides freight service. It runs a line through Shoemakersville.
