History of Shoreham
Nikola Tesla and Wardenclyffe Tower
In 1901, a famous inventor named Nikola Tesla built a laboratory in Shoreham. He started building a very tall structure called the Wardenclyffe Tower. Tesla wanted to use this tower to send messages and even electricity without wires! Imagine sending power through the air!
The tower was taken down in 1917. Today, a special center called the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe is working to fix up Tesla's old lab. They plan to create an educational center and a museum. It will honor Tesla's amazing life and inventions. This museum is being built right where the famous tower once stood.
Early Transportation
Shoreham also had a train station for a short time. The Shoreham LIRR station served the area from 1900 to 1910. It was located near North Country Road and Randall Road.
