About the Shotgun Players

The Shotgun Players theater group started in 1992. It was founded by Patrick Dooley, who is the Artistic Director. He and ten other actors began the company in a pizza shop.

Before they found a permanent home, Shotgun Players performed in many different places. They used 44 different spaces! In 2004, they finally moved into the Ashby Stage.

A Green Theater: Solar Power

In December 2007, the Ashby Stage became very special. It was the first live theater in the whole country to use only solar power. This means it gets all its energy from the sun! The Ashby Stage is where most of their main plays are performed.

The Shotgun Studios

In 2015, the Shotgun Players bought another building. It used to be a bookstore. They turned it into a rehearsal studio and workshop. This new space is called the Shotgun Studios. It is used for practicing plays and creating new things. Other new theater groups can also use this space to practice.

Plays and Productions

Since 1992, Shotgun Players has put on more than 140 plays. About 30 of these plays were brand new works. This means the Shotgun Players asked writers to create them.

Main Stage Shows

The Shotgun Players usually put on about 6 plays each year. In 2015, they had a special season. All the plays they performed were written by women. This included 6 full plays and 6 staged readings. A staged reading is when actors read the play aloud, often with some movement. In 2016, they celebrated their 25th anniversary. For this, they performed their plays in a special way called "repertory." This means they performed several plays in rotation.
