Siún Nic Gearailt (born September 14, 1971) is a well-known news presenter in Ireland. She works for RTÉ, which is Ireland's main TV and radio broadcaster. She also works for TG4, the Irish-language television channel.
Siún presents Nuacht RTÉ and Nuacht TG4, which are news programmes in the Irish language. She has also presented many of RTÉ's English news shows. These include the Six One News, Nine O'Clock News, and the News on Two. She has also read news updates on RTÉ Radio.

Early Life and Education
Siún Nic Gearailt grew up speaking Irish. Her family lived in the Feothanach Gaeltacht area in western County Kerry. A Gaeltacht is a place where Irish is the main language spoken every day. Her family owned a local pub there.
She lived in Germany for several years and speaks German very well. She also worked for a film company called Concorde Anois. She was a trainee assistant director for a movie called The Unspeakable (1996). She even had a small role in the Irish TV comedy show CU Burn.
Siún studied Irish and German at University College Galway (UCG).
Career in Broadcasting
After finishing college in 1995, Siún Nic Gearailt started her career in radio. She worked at a local radio station called Clare FM. There, she was a researcher and a reporter. She also worked for RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, which is an Irish-language radio station.
Starting with TG4
In 1996, a new Irish-language TV channel called TnaG (now TG4) began. Siún was one of the first journalists to work there. She reported on many important events from different places. She covered the aftermath of the Omagh bombing in Northern Ireland. She also reported from Germany before the new European money, the euro, was introduced. Siún also reported on the work of Irish priests and nuns in Nigeria.
She helped present the special event when Mary McAleese became the 8th President of Ireland. This live broadcast was from Dublin Castle.
Moving to RTÉ News
In 2003, RTÉ asked Siún to present a news show called Seachtain. This was a weekly show that focused on local issues. Soon after, she became the main presenter for Nuacht RTÉ. She continued to present Seachtain for a few more years.
From 2006, she started presenting various other news programmes for RTÉ. She has presented all the main news bulletins, including the Six One News, News on Two, and the Nine O'Clock News.
Recent Reporting Work
More recently, Siún presented a special live show in 2013. It was a tribute to the writer and musician Maidhc Dainín Ó Sé after he passed away. In 2015, she presented Nuacht RTÉ from Westminster during the British General Election.
Before the 2016 Irish general election, she presented live broadcasts for Nuacht RTÉ. These shows were from Galway, Kerry, and Taoiseach Enda Kenny's home area of Mayo.
Other Activities
Siún Nic Gearailt has also taken part in other fun events. She won the first RTÉ Personalities' GAA Prediction League. She beat Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, who is a very famous voice in Irish sports.
RSVP magazine readers voted Siún as the Kerry Woman of the Year. She was also voted one of the top 5 most liked presenters by the RTÉ Guide.
Sometimes, she acts as a host for charity events and cultural gatherings.
Personal Life
Siún Nic Gearailt married another news presenter, Ailbhe Ó Monacháin, in December 2007. He is from Gaoth Dobhair in County Donegal. They separated in 2014.
