Sienna Tiggy Guillory (born 16 March 1975) is an English actress and former model. She is well-known for playing Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil action movies. She also played the elf princess Arya Dröttningu in the fantasy film Eragon. Another famous role was playing the main character in the TV show Helen of Troy. Sienna has also appeared in TV series like Fortitude, Stan Lee's Lucky Man, and Luther.
Early Life
Sienna Guillory was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. Her father, Isaac Guillory, was a famous American folk guitarist. Her mother, Tina Thompson, was an English model. When Sienna was two, her family moved to Fulham, London. Later, when she was 11, they moved to Norfolk. To learn Spanish, Sienna spent time with her cousins in Mexico when she was ten years old.
Sienna went to Gresham's School in Holt, Norfolk. There, she took part in many school plays. She started riding horses when she was only two years old. When she was 14, she got her own horse, which she named The Night Porter. Sienna's father passed away from cancer in 2000 when she was 25.
Career
Modelling
In 1997, Sienna went with a friend to a modelling agency in London and was quickly signed. She used modelling to help pay for her acting career. As a model, she worked for big fashion brands like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Burberry. She also appeared on the covers of several fashion magazines. In 1999, she became the face of the Hugo Boss perfume campaign for three years. After a few years of modelling, Sienna decided to focus mainly on acting again in 2000.
Acting
Sienna has said that she became an actor because she wanted to experience what it was like to be different people. She also mentioned that she started acting when she was 16 because she was offered a job that paid well.
In 1993, Sienna made her first appearance on screen in Riders. This was a TV show based on a book, and the casting directors needed an actress who could ride a horse. Her performance helped her get another small role in the TV mini-series The Buccaneers.
Before becoming a model, Sienna worked as a waitress to support her acting dreams. She also studied acting at the New World School of the Arts and the Paris Conservatoire. During this time, she took on small roles in TV and films like Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) and The 3 Kings.
In 2000, Sienna took on a bigger role in the thriller film Sorted. She then appeared in the BBC TV show Take a Girl Like You. She played Jenny Bunn, a kind and innocent character. Sienna liked playing this role because she had often played more intense characters before.
In 2002, Sienna appeared in the movie The Time Machine. This was a much larger film than her previous independent movies. She played Emma, the fiancée of the main character, whose death starts the whole story.
In 2003, Sienna had a small role in the romantic comedy Love Actually. After that, she took on the main role in the TV mini-series Helen of Troy. This series was based on the ancient Greek poem Iliad and told the story of the mythical Helen.
In 2004, Sienna got her first big Hollywood role. She was chosen to play Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, which was based on a video game. The filmmakers looked for a long time to find the right actress. Sienna looked very much like the video game character. To prepare, she watched videos of people playing the video game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to learn the character's movements.
After the success of Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Sienna appeared in other films and TV shows. In 2006, she played a lead role in the fantasy movie Eragon. She played Arya Dröttningu, an elf princess. Even though Arya is an important character, Sienna joked that her part in the movie was quite short. Eragon made a lot of money worldwide. Sienna was asked to play Jill Valentine again in Resident Evil: Extinction, but she couldn't because she was busy filming Eragon.
In 2008, Sienna played Resa in the movie Inkheart. Resa is the wife of the main character and mother of another. Sienna acted alongside Helen Mirren, who was a role model for her when she first wanted to act.
In 2010, Sienna returned as Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Afterlife. She had a small appearance at the end of the movie. She then had a starring role as the main villain in the next film, Resident Evil: Retribution.
From 2015 to 2018, she was part of the main cast of the thriller TV series Fortitude. She played a scientist named Natalie Yelburton. In 2016, she also joined the cast of Stan Lee's Lucky Man, playing the character Eve. In 2023, Sienna played the main villain, Hillary Driscoll, in the movie Meg 2: The Trench.
Media
In 2001, readers of Esquire UK magazine voted Sienna Guillory "Britain's Most Eligible Woman". She was also featured in a photo shoot in the magazine.
Sienna has said that she doesn't really like the Hollywood lifestyle. She prefers a more private life away from constant attention.
Personal Life
Sienna Guillory married actor Nick Moran in 1997, but they divorced in 2000. In 2000, Sienna started dating English actor Enzo Cilenti, and they got married in 2002. They have appeared in several movies together, including Late Night Shopping. In August 2004, Sienna and Enzo cycled five stages of the Tour de France to raise money for charity. On 1 February 2011, Sienna gave birth to twin daughters, Valentina and Lucia Cilenti. They were named after her grandmother and great-aunt, who were also twin sisters.
