Early Life and Family
Sienna Guillory was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. Her father was the American folk guitarist Isaac Guillory, and her mother was the English model Tina Thompson. Her father was born at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba and had American and Turkish-Jewish parents.
When Guillory was two, her family moved to Fulham, London. They later moved to Norfolk when she was 11. At age ten, she visited her cousins in Mexico to learn Spanish. Her parents divorced in 1990. Her father passed away from cancer in 2000.
Guillory attended Gresham's School in Norfolk, where she acted in many school plays. She began riding horses when she was only two years old. When she was 14, she received a horse as a gift and named him "Porty".
Career Journey
From Modeling to Acting
In 1997, Guillory went with a friend to the Select Model Management agency in London and was hired as a model. She used her modeling work to help support her acting career. She worked on campaigns for famous brands like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Burberry. For three years, she was the face of a Hugo Boss fragrance. After a few years, she decided to focus completely on acting.
Becoming a Movie Star
Guillory's first role was in the 1993 TV show Riders. The show needed an actress who could ride a horse, and Guillory was a perfect fit. This led to another small part in the miniseries The Buccaneers.
In 2002, Guillory appeared in the science-fiction movie The Time Machine. She played Emma, the fiancée of the main character, played by Guy Pearce. This was her first role in a big-budget movie.
The next year, she played the main character in the TV miniseries Helen of Troy. The series tells the story of Helen from the ancient Greek poem, the Iliad. The show was nominated for a Satellite Award.
The Resident Evil Series
In 2004, Guillory got her first major Hollywood role as Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Jill Valentine is a popular character from the Resident Evil video games. To prepare for the role, Guillory watched people play the game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to study how the character moved and acted.
She said she loved playing Jill because "she dresses to kill, says whatever she wants and can shoot anyone between the eyes in a 50-yard radius. She's hard as nails and she's great fun."
Guillory returned as Jill Valentine in later movies in the series. She had a brief appearance in Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) and had a main role as the villain in Resident Evil: Retribution (2012).
Fantasy and Adventure Films
In 2006, Guillory played the elf princess Arya Dröttningu in the fantasy movie Eragon. The movie was based on a popular book by Christopher Paolini.
