The Railroad and Town Growth
A big change happened in 1917 when the Gulf, Mobile and Northern Railroad came to Silerton. This made Silerton a "railroad town." The train station was named after the Siler family because they owned many important businesses. The town's name was later changed to "Silerton" to avoid confusion with another nearby town.
