SiliCon with Adam Savage is a super fun yearly event that brings together everything cool about pop culture and technology! It happens at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California. This awesome convention was started by Steve Wozniak (who helped create Apple!), Stan Lee (the legendary comic book writer!), and Rick White. The very first event was held from March 18 to 20, 2016. In 2020, the convention got a new name, SiliCon, and Adam Savage from MythBusters became its creative director!

A Look Back: How SiliCon Started

The idea for Silicon Valley Comic Con was first shared on April 17, 2015, in an online video with Steve Wozniak and Stan Lee. They wanted to create a place where all kinds of popular culture, like comics, movies, TV shows, and technology, could come together. Imagine a convention where you could see famous artists, writers, actors, directors, and even scientists all in one place!

This convention was the first big multi-genre event in the San Francisco Bay Area since another popular one, WonderCon, moved away in 2011. So, Silicon Valley Comic Con became the new big event for fans in the area.

On July 13, 2016, it was announced that the second yearly event would happen from April 21 to 23, 2017. It would be held at the San Jose Convention Center and even expand into other nearby places.

Then, on February 20, 2020, the convention changed its name to SiliCon. Adam Savage, known for his amazing work on MythBusters, was named the new creative director. The 2020 event was planned for October 16–18, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to become an online-only show.

What You Can Do at SiliCon

SiliCon is special because it mixes both popular culture and technology. Steve Wozniak hoped it would have a unique "Silicon Valley" feel. This means you'll find things typical of comic conventions, like an "artists alley" where you can meet comic artists. But you'll also find an "app alley" where you can see cool new technology!

Many movie and TV studios, like Warner Bros. Pictures, Lionsgate, and AMC, have been part of the event. You can also meet famous scientists and tech experts.

SiliCon has lots of exciting activities! You can enjoy:

  • Fun workshops where you can learn to make things.
  • Sessions about what the future might look like.
  • Tips and tricks for cosplay (dressing up as characters).
  • New tech hubs to explore the latest gadgets.
  • More time for Q&A sessions with your favorite celebrities.

SiliCon also has new vendors who show off materials for the cosplay and maker communities. Whether you're a pro at making things or just starting, there's something for everyone. Plus, there are lots of activities that the whole family can enjoy together!
