Silver Gate is a small community in Park County, Montana, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP) because the government counts its population. In 2020, only 19 people lived there. Before 2010, Silver Gate was part of a larger area called Cooke City-Silver Gate.
This community is located just northeast of Yellowstone National Park. It sits right on the Beartooth Highway (U.S. Route 212). Silver Gate is the closest town to Yellowstone Park's Northeast Entrance.

Exploring Silver Gate's Location
Silver Gate is in the southeastern part of Park County. To the south, it borders the North Absaroka Wilderness. This wilderness area is inside Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming. To the west, you'll find Yellowstone National Park. To the east, Silver Gate is next to Cooke City.
Rivers and Valleys
Both Silver Gate and Cooke City are in the valley of Soda Butte Creek. This creek flows southwest into Wyoming. It then joins the Lamar River inside Yellowstone Park. This valley is part of the larger Yellowstone River area.
Silver Gate's Weather and Climate
Silver Gate has a mountain climate. Summers are cool, and winters are very cold with lots of snow. The weather can change quickly because of the mountains.
