The Life of Simon Rinalducci
Simon Rinalducci became an Augustinian friar in 1280. Even then, he was already known for his deep studies of religious topics. He worked as a teacher (called a lector) and led several friar houses as a prior. People even whispered that he could perform miracles.
A Famous Preacher
Simon was a very famous preacher during his time. He was so good at speaking that he was eventually chosen to be the Augustinian provincial prior in Umbria. This meant he was in charge of all the Augustinian friars in that area.
Facing a Challenge
In 1318, something difficult happened to Simon. During a big meeting of the Augustinian Order, he was unfairly accused of some serious things. Instead of arguing or causing trouble, Simon chose to stay quiet. He didn't want to create problems among his fellow friars. Because of his patience and silence, he was eventually found innocent.
A writer from that time, Jordan of Saxony, wrote about Simon. He said that Simon was a very holy and respected man. Even when he faced unfair accusations, he remained patient. Later, Simon was sent to Bologna to preach. There, he taught people a lot and showed them how to live a good life through his own example.
Helping Others
Simon was also good friends with important people. In May 1311, the bishop of Terni gave a church to the Augustinians in his area. He did this mainly because Simon Rinalducci asked him to. This shows how much people trusted and respected Simon.
Simon Rinalducci passed away in Bologna on April 20, 1322. He died at the monastery of Saint James the Great.
Honoring Blessed Simon
Today, the special items connected to Blessed Simon, called relics, are kept and honored at the monastery in Bologna where he died. His special day, called a feast day, is celebrated every year on April 20. This day is especially important for the Augustinian Order.
In 1833, Pope Gregory XVI officially recognized Simon Rinalducci as "Blessed." This means the Church confirmed that people could honor him as a holy person.
