The Trifolium siskiyouense, also known as the Siskiyou clover, is a special kind of clover. It is found only in the Klamath Mountains in the western United States. This means it grows naturally nowhere else in the world!

Where Does Siskiyou Clover Grow?

The Siskiyou clover is native to two states: northwestern California and southwestern Oregon. It lives in the beautiful Klamath Mountains.

Scientists have found this plant in just five counties:

The very first sample of this plant, called a type specimen, was collected in 1904. It was found near Grants Pass in Josephine County, Oregon. A part of the area where this clover grows is protected inside the Klamath National Forest. This helps keep its home safe.

This clover likes to grow in wet mountain meadows. You can find it at elevations between 800 and 1,400 meters (about 2,600 to 4,600 feet) above sea level.

What Does Siskiyou Clover Look Like?

The Siskiyou clover is a smooth, perennial plant. This means it lives for more than two years. It has thick roots but does not spread with underground stems called rhizomes.

Its leaves have three parts, which is common for clovers. Each leaf part is shaped like an oval or a spoon, and can be up to 3 centimeters (about 1.2 inches) long. The flowers of the Siskiyou clover are usually white or a creamy color.
