While in college, Sivakarthikeyan loved to perform. He did mimicry (imitating others) and stand-up comedy. During a break from his studies, his friends encouraged him to try out for Kalakka Povathu Yaaru?. This was a comedy TV show on Star Vijay.

Soon, film director Pandiraj asked Sivakarthikeyan to play the main role in his movie Marina. Sivakarthikeyan worked hard for the role. He visited Marina Beach often to understand the setting. Critics liked his performance, saying his natural humor shined through.
Before Marina was released, Aishwarya Rajinikanth chose him for a supporting role. He played Dhanush's friend in the movie 3. People really liked his funny parts in this serious film. This movie also started his strong connection with Dhanush. Sivakarthikeyan often says Dhanush is his guide in the film industry.
Next, he appeared in Ezhil's romantic comedy Manam Kothi Paravai. This movie did well at the box office.
Trying New Roles and Finding Success (2013–2019)
In 2013, Sivakarthikeyan starred in three movies. His first film that year was Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga. This was a comedy about two friends growing up. He worked with director Pandiraj again for this film. It was filmed in his hometown of Tiruchirappalli. The movie was a big success and made good money.
His next hit was Ethir Neechal. This film was produced by Dhanush. It was about a young man who was a talented runner. He worked hard to make a name for himself.
His third movie in 2013 was Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. In this comedy, he played a carefree young man from a village. He starred alongside new actress Sri Divya. His film Remo was directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan. In this movie, Sivakarthikeyan played a young man who dressed up as a female nurse. He did this to get close to the girl he liked.
