Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a special school for higher education. It is run by the Haudenosaunee people. This school is located on the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation territory in Ontario, Canada.

SNP is known as an Indigenous Institute. This means it is a unique type of school for Indigenous students. It helps Indigenous people get more chances for higher education. SNP works with other colleges and universities. They offer different programs like degrees, diplomas, and special training. These programs are approved by the government.

The Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation is made up of six different Indigenous groups. These are the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca, and Tuscarora peoples. Their land covers about 46,000 acres (186 square kilometers). This area is close to the city of Brantford, Ontario. Six Nations Polytechnic has two main locations. One is in Ohsweken, and the other is in Brantford.

History of SNP

Six Nations Polytechnic started in 1993. Since then, it has offered many college and university programs. They do this by working with public colleges and universities.

In 2009, something very important happened. SNP launched two special language programs. These were the Indigenous Knowledge Centre and Ogweho:weh Diploma Programs. "Ogweho:weh" means "original people" in Haudenosaunee languages. These programs focus on the Cayuga (Gayogohó:non) and Mohawk (Kayenkeha) languages. They were created with McMaster University. The goal is for these diploma programs to become full degree programs. This will help keep Haudenosaunee languages strong.

Working with Others

Six Nations Polytechnic works with many different groups. They partner with governments, businesses, and other schools. These partnerships help them offer a wide range of courses. They also help students get ready for jobs.

Help for Students

SNP offers special money help for students. These are called scholarships and bursaries. They are for First Nations and Métis students. This help makes it easier for students to attend school.

Six Nations Achievement Centre

The Six Nations Achievement Centre began in 1993. It is a place where adults can get extra help with school skills. They offer tutoring in reading, writing, and basic math. This help is given in a way that respects Indigenous culture. The goal is to help adults improve their skills. This can help them go to higher education or find jobs. The Centre is funded by the government. It also works with other literacy groups.

SNP Campuses

Six Nations Polytechnic has two places where students can learn.

Brantford Campus

There is also a second campus in Brantford, Ontario. This campus is located at 411 Elgin Street. It provides more options for students in the area.
