What Happens in Sky High?
Will Stronghold is starting ninth grade at Sky High. This school is only for teenagers who have superpowers. Will's parents are The Commander and Jetstream. They are two of the most famous superheroes in the world.
Will's best friend is Layla Williams. She can control plants and has a crush on Will. Will is worried about going to Sky High. The school is a floating campus reached by a flying school bus. He's worried because he doesn't have any powers yet, and his parents don't know.
Will's First Day at Sky High
On his first day, Will and other new students meet some bullies. These include Speed, who is super fast, Lash, who can stretch, and Penny, who can make copies of herself.
Because Will doesn't have powers, he's put into "Hero Support" class. This class is for sidekicks. His classmates are Ethan, who can melt, Zach, who glows, and Magenta, who turns into a guinea pig. Layla joins the class too, to protest how the school separates students. The class is taught by "All American Boy," who used to be The Commander's sidekick.
Will learns that not everyone gets powers. Even if both parents are superheroes, some kids don't get any. The bus driver, Ron Wilson, is one example.
The Commander's Secret and Royal Pain
Will's dad, The Commander, doesn't know Will is in Hero Support. He shows Will his secret trophy room. He's very proud of a weapon called "The Pacifier." He took it from his enemy, Royal Pain, years ago.
What they don't know is that Royal Pain is watching them. She was thought to be gone, but she's still around. She's watching from a hidden camera with her sidekick, Stitches.
Will's Powers Appear
As Will gets used to Sky High, he becomes friends with the sidekicks. He also has a rivalry with Warren Peace. Warren's supervillain father was put in jail by The Commander.
During a fight with Warren, Will suddenly gets super strength! This impresses Gwen Grayson, a popular girl who can control machines. After this, Will gets moved to the "Hero" class. He becomes popular and starts spending less time with his sidekick friends.
Homecoming Dance and a Big Secret
Gwen visits Will's house and invites his parents to the Homecoming Dance. They are going to get an award there. Gwen then asks Will to the dance, and he's thrilled. He starts spending more time with Gwen and her friends. He ignores Layla and the other sidekicks. Layla tells Warren that she has liked Will for a long time.
The night before the dance, Gwen tricks Will into having a party at his house. While Will shows her his dad's secret room, Speed steals The Pacifier. Later, Layla comes over and Gwen lies to her. Will gets upset and breaks up with Gwen. He decides not to go to the dance.
Will then looks at his dad's old yearbook. He sees a student who looks like Gwen holding The Pacifier. He realizes The Pacifier is missing. He figures out that the student, Sue Tenny, was Royal Pain. This means Gwen is Royal Pain! He rushes to the dance.
The Truth About Royal Pain
At the dance, Gwen reveals she is actually Royal Pain! When she fought The Commander before, The Pacifier didn't work right. It was supposed to turn people into babies, but it turned her into a baby instead. Everyone thought she was gone. Stitches raised her, and she waited years for her revenge.
With help from Stitches, Speed, Lash, and Penny, Royal Pain takes over the school. She uses The Pacifier to turn Will's parents, the teachers, and the students into babies. She plans to start a supervillain school and raise the babies to be villains. She wants revenge for being called a sidekick when she was young.
Saving the Day
Will returns to school and says sorry to Layla. He teams up with Warren, the sidekicks, and Ron Wilson to save everyone. The sidekicks show they are true heroes. Royal Pain tries to make the school fall, but their powers help restart the anti-gravity system.
Will discovers he can fly, just like his mom! He uses his strength and flight to stop the school from falling. Royal Pain and her helpers are defeated and put in detention. Will's parents, the teachers, and students all return to their normal ages. His parents thank the sidekicks and say they are real heroes.
Will and Layla finally kiss. Will explains that Ron Wilson got superpowers after falling into toxic waste, becoming a superhero. Will and Layla are now a couple, and he and Warren are best friends. Gwen and the other bullies went to prison, becoming Will's enemies. Will says it was a strange series of events, just like high school.

Future Plans for Sky High
There were talks about making a sequel to Sky High and even a TV series. In 2016, Disney announced a sequel was being planned. The director, Mike Mitchell, said in 2019 that they had ideas for a franchise.
A possible sequel might have been called Save U, where the characters would go to college. Most of the original actors were ready to return, except for Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston. However, there haven't been any new updates on these plans.
