Its home range stretches from Alaska down through central Canada and the western contiguous United States. It even reaches a small part of Baja California.

What It Looks Like
Slenderbeak sedge grows in thick bunches. Its stems can reach up to 80 centimeters (about 31 inches) tall. The plant's flowers and seeds grow in a tight cluster. This cluster is called an inflorescence. It is usually green to brown and about one or two centimeters long.
Where It Lives
This sedge loves wet places! You can find Carex athrostachya growing in wetlands. It also thrives in meadows that are wet for at least part of the year. These areas provide the perfect damp soil for the plant to grow.
