The Snake River Range is a group of mountains located in the United States, spreading across the states of Wyoming and Idaho. It is part of the larger Rocky Mountains system. This mountain range is home to many tall peaks, with 10 of them rising over 9,000 feet high! The highest point in the range is Mount Baird, which stands at an impressive 10,030 feet.

Exploring the Snake River Range

The Snake River Range runs from the northwest to the southeast. To its north, it meets the Teton Range at a place called Teton Pass. On its western side, you'll find the Palisades Reservoir. The famous Snake River wraps around the eastern, southern, and western parts of the range.

Size and Shape

This mountain range is about 30 miles long from north to south. It is also about 33 miles wide from west to east. In total, the Snake River Range covers an area of about 528 square miles.

The Snake River Canyon

Along the southern edge of the range, the Snake River flows through a deep valley. This valley is known as the Grand Canyon, or more commonly, the Snake River Canyon. It's a very scenic area!

Roads and Travel

If you want to explore the area, U.S. Route 26 and U.S. Route 89 follow the path of the Snake River. These roads go from a spot called Hoback Junction all the way to the Palisades Reservoir. They offer great views of the mountains and the river.
