Riversoar
The Soar Valley between Barrow upon Soar and Mountsorrel.

The Soar Valley is a beautiful area in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, England. It's named after the River Soar, which starts south of Leicester. The river then flows north through a place called Charnwood before joining another river, the River Trent, at a spot called Trent Lock.

This valley is home to several large villages like Quorn, Mountsorrel, Barrow upon Soar, Birstall, Rothley, and Sileby. Many smaller communities also live close to the River Soar as it travels from Leicester to Loughborough. The valley is also near the Charnwood Forest. A special old railway line, the Great Central Railway, runs right through the middle of this area. It's the only preserved main railway line in Britain with two tracks!

Local Government and Voting

The Soar Valley is also important for how local areas are governed. Downstream from Stanford on Soar, the River Soar creates a border with Nottinghamshire. In Nottinghamshire, the Soar Valley is an "electoral district." This means it's an area where people vote to choose a person to represent them on the Nottinghamshire County Council. This person is called a councillor.

There is also a "ward" called Soar Valley for the Rushcliffe Borough Council. A ward is a smaller area for voting. This Soar Valley ward includes three local areas called "parishes": Sutton Bonington, Kingston on Soar, and Ratcliffe on Soar. People in these parishes vote for their councillor for the Rushcliffe Borough Council.
