Sofia Mikhaylivna Tarasova (born March 31, 2001) is a talented singer and actress from Ukraine. She used to be a member of the Ukrainian girl group Nu Virgos. Sofia became well-known when she represented Ukraine in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with her song "We Are One." She did very well, coming in 2nd place with 121 points.
Early Life and Talents
Sofia Tarasova was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on March 31, 2001. She showed a love for singing very early, at just two and a half years old. Because she had perfect pitch, she was able to join a special group for gifted children. This group was at the Reinhold M. Gliere Music College in her hometown.
When Sofia was four, she passed an exam to study at the Academy of Arts. There, she learned about music, dancing, and art. At age six, Sofia joined a show theater called "Chunga-Changa." This gave her acting lessons and chances to play main roles in musicals. She once said that playing "Gerda" in the musical The Snow Queen was her favorite role. When she was ten, she joined the "PARADIZ" center. Here, she continued to learn about singing, dancing, modeling, and acting.
Musical Journey
Early Competitions (2012)
In 2012, Sofia won Holos. Dity, which is the children's version of The Voice in Ukraine. That same year, she tried out for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012 for Ukraine with her song "Zhityeviy Pazl." However, she was not chosen to represent her country that time. Sofia also sang for Ukraine for the first time at the Euro Pop Contest in Berlin. This singing contest is similar to the Eurovision Song Contest.
Junior Eurovision Success (2013)

Sofia won the "New Wave Junior" competition in 2013. This was the sixth time this international pop performers contest was held. In the same year, she also won the "Eurovision Music Academy."
On August 2, 2013, Sofia competed again to represent Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013. She sang her song "We Are One" and won first place among 20 other singers. This meant she would represent Ukraine. At the contest, Sofia's song came in 2nd place with 121 points.
New Music and More Contests (2014)
In April 2014, Sofia released a new song called "Ver' mne" (which means "Believe me"). The music video for this song came out on May 21, 2014. Sofia was also chosen to announce the points for Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Marsa, Malta, on November 15.
Sofia competed in the Euro Pop Contest for a second time. On December 1, 2014, she won first place in the 10–13 age group. She was supposed to be part of the Ukrainian jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, but she had to withdraw for personal reasons.
The Voice Russia (2018)
In October 2018, Sofia decided to join Golos, which is the Russian version of The Voice. She sang "I'm Your Baby Tonight" by Whitney Houston. All four coaches wanted her on their team, and she chose to join Team Konstantin.
In the Battle round, Sofia sang "Obiymy" (Embrace) with another singer and won, moving on to the next stage. She then sang "Ty otpusti" (You let go) and made it to the live shows. In the quarterfinal, Sofia sang "Amerikanskaya zhena" (American wife) from the movie Stilyagi and moved forward again. In the semi-final, she performed "We Are the World." Even though the coaches liked her performance, Sofia was eliminated from the semi-final.
Solo Career (2019–Present)
After The Voice, Sofia started performing under the name SOFA. She released several songs, including "Мы стоим у воды" (We're standing by the water), "Киев-Москва" (Kiev-Moscow), and "Харизма" (Charisma). She also released "Не обижай меня" (Don't hurt me) and a song called "Одуванчиков поле" (Dandelion Field).
On September 8, 2023, she released a new song called "Почему я?" (Why me?) with Konstantin Meladze.
Joining Nu Virgos (2020–2022)
On November 6, 2020, Sofia Tarasova became a member of the Ukrainian pop group Nu Virgos. The group continued to perform until February 22, 2022, when they disbanded due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
