The Solomon Hills are a range of low mountains located in sunny California. You can find them in the northern part of Santa Barbara County. These hills are like a natural divider. They separate the Santa Maria Valley and the city of Santa Maria to the north from the Los Alamos Valley and the Santa Ynez Valley to the south.
History of the Solomon Hills
The Solomon Hills got their name from a person named Salomon Pico. He was a well-known figure in California during the 1800s. People say he was active in this area between 1849 and 1852.
Later, in 1901, oil was discovered in the western part of the Solomon Hills. This area became known as the Orcutt Oil Field. It was an important discovery for the region's economy.
