Son of the Mask is a 2005 superhero comedy film directed by Lawrence Guterman. It stars Jamie Kennedy as Tim Avery. Tim is an artist who is about to become a dad.

The movie is a follow-up to the 1994 film The Mask. That first movie was based on Dark Horse Comics. This film also features Alan Cumming as Loki, a god of mischief. Loki is told by his father, Odin, to find the powerful Mask.

The film also stars Traylor Howard, Kal Penn, Steven Wright, and Bob Hoskins as Odin. Ryan and Liam Falconer play Tim's baby, Alvey. Ben Stein appears briefly as Dr. Arthur Neuman from the first movie. This helps explain the Mask's connection to Loki. The film was not very successful when it came out.

Story of the Mask

This movie takes place 11 years after the first Mask film. Dr. Arthur Neuman is giving a tour at the Edge City Museum. He talks about Norse mythology and how Loki made the Mask. He explains that anyone who wears the Mask gets Loki's powers.

Loki, who is disguised as a man, gets angry when Dr. Neuman says Odin imprisoned him. Loki takes a Mask from the museum, but it's a fake! He gets very mad and leaves.

Meanwhile, the real Mask ends up in Fringe City. A dog named Otis finds it in a river. Otis belongs to Tim Avery, an artist who works at an animation studio. Tim is worried about becoming a father. He has a wife named Tonya and a best friend named Jorge.

On a tropical island, Odin tells Loki to find the Mask. Odin says the Mask has caused too much trouble. Loki asks for help, but Odin says it's Loki's problem to fix.

Later that night, Tim puts on the Mask for a Halloween party. He turns into a wild, green-faced party animal. The party is boring, so Tim uses his Mask powers to sing a fun song. This makes the party a huge success! Tim's boss loves his performance and decides to make Tim's Mask character into a cartoon. Tim gets a promotion the next day.

Tim goes home and, while still wearing the Mask, he and Tonya have a baby. Their baby, named Alvey, is born with powers like the Mask! This alerts Odin. Odin takes over a store clerk's body to tell Loki about the baby. He says if Loki finds the child, he will find the Mask.

Tonya goes on a business trip, leaving Tim with baby Alvey. Tim is busy with his new cartoon job. He tries to work at home, but Alvey keeps interrupting him. To get some quiet, Tim lets Alvey watch cartoons like Michigan J. Frog and Woody Woodpecker. Alvey then uses his powers to play tricks on his dad.

Otis, the dog, feels left out because of Alvey. He accidentally puts on the Mask and becomes a crazy, masked dog. He tries to get rid of Alvey, but Alvey's powers always stop him.

Eventually, Loki finds the baby with Mask powers. He confronts Tim to get the Mask back. But Alvey uses his powers to protect his dad. Odin, who is now controlling Tim's body, gets angry with Loki. He takes away Loki's powers.

Tim later loses his job because his cartoon pitch doesn't go well. But he makes up with Alvey and they become closer. Loki, still wanting to please his father, performs a ritual. He asks Odin to give him his powers back. Odin agrees, but only for a short time. He says this is Loki's last chance.

Loki then kidnaps Alvey to trade him for the Mask. When Tonya comes home, she, Tim, and Otis go to meet Loki. Tim had apologized to Otis for ignoring him. He convinced Otis that Alvey could be his new best friend.

Loki decides to keep Alvey even after getting the Mask. So, Tim, Tonya, and Otis chase after them. Tim puts on the Mask again to fight Loki. They both have equal powers, so the fight is even. Loki stops the fight and suggests Alvey choose who he wants to live with. Loki tries to tempt Alvey with toys. But Tim takes off the Mask and asks Alvey to come back to him. Alvey chooses Tim because of their special connection.

Loki is sad and angry. He tries to hurt Tim, but his time is up. Odin appears in person. He scolds Loki for failing and plans to banish him. But Tim feels bad for Loki. He reminds Odin that they are still father and son. Tim says family is the most important thing.

Odin is touched by Tim's words. He makes up with Loki. Tim gives the Mask to Odin. Odin and Loki then go back to Asgard. Later, Tim gets his job back. His new cartoon, based on Alvey and Otis competing for his attention, becomes a big hit. Tonya then tells Tim that she is pregnant again!
