Sonic the Hedgehog is an exciting adventure movie based on the super popular video game series by Sega. It was directed by Jeff Fowler. The film brings the speedy blue hedgehog to life on the big screen!

The movie was first planned for release in November 2019. However, fans had some strong opinions about Sonic's original look. Because of this, the movie's release was delayed. It finally came out on February 14, 2020, with a new and improved Sonic design.

Story of Sonic the Hedgehog

The movie starts with a quick peek into the future. We see Sonic running fast, trying to escape from the evil Dr. Robotnik. Then, the story goes back to the beginning to show us how everything started.

Sonic's Home and Escape

Sonic lives in a beautiful place called Green Hill Zone. He is very fast and loves to run. His guardian, a wise owl named Longclaw, warns him to be careful. She tells him that his super speed might attract unwanted attention.

Longclaw's warning comes true when some creatures try to capture Sonic because of his speed. To keep him safe, Longclaw gives Sonic special rings. These rings can open portals to different dimensions. She tells him to use a ring to escape if he is ever in danger. Sonic uses a ring and travels to a new world. He tries to go back home, but the portal closes too soon.

Life on Earth

Ten years later, Sonic finds himself living secretly on Earth. He ends up in a small town called Green Hills, Montana. Here, he watches the local sheriff, Tom Wachowski, from afar. Tom is a bit bored with his quiet job.

One day, Tom is using his speed gun and sees a turtle moving very slowly. Suddenly, Sonic zooms by! Tom's speed gun shows incredibly high speeds. Sonic even saves the turtle from being run over by a car. He then quickly returns to his hidden home in the forest.

The Power Outage

Sonic often feels lonely because he has to hide his powers. One night, he is playing baseball by himself, pretending to have friends. He runs so fast around the bases that he accidentally causes a huge power outage. This blackout affects the entire Pacific Coast!

The government needs to figure out what caused such a massive power failure. They decide to call in a very smart but eccentric scientist, Dr. Robotnik.

Dr. Robotnik's Investigation

Dr. Robotnik arrives to investigate the power outage. He uses his advanced technology to search for clues. One of his drones finds a single blue hair. It's a hair from Sonic!

Robotnik quickly realizes that this hair belongs to a "new species." He becomes determined to find out more about this mysterious, super-fast creature. He wants to use Sonic's power for his own plans to take over the world.

Making the Movie

The first preview, or trailer, for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie came out in April 2019. Many fans watched it, but they were not happy with how Sonic looked. They thought his design looked too human-like and a bit creepy. Because of all the complaints, the movie studio, Paramount, decided to delay the film. They wanted to redesign Sonic to make him look better.

After a lot of hard work, a second trailer was released. This time, fans loved the new design! Sonic looked much more like he does in the original video games. This change made many people excited to see the movie.
