Euphemia LatiQue "Tika" Sumpter (born June 20, 1980) is an American actress and producer. She is known for her many roles in movies and TV shows. Tika started her career as a TV host. Later, she became famous for acting in popular shows like One Life to Live and The Haves and the Have Nots.
She has also starred in many films. Some of her well-known movies include Ride Along, Southside with You (where she played Michelle Obama), and the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

Early life and education
Tika Sumpter was born in Queens, New York City. When she was in high school, she was a cheerleader. She went to Longwood Senior High School in Middle Island, New York. After high school, she studied communications at Marymount Manhattan College.
Career highlights
Starting out in TV and film (2000–2011)
Tika Sumpter began her career as a model. She appeared in commercials for brands like Hewlett-Packard. Before becoming a full-time actress, she also worked as a waitress.
In 2004, Tika became a co-host for a reality TV show called Best Friend's Date. This show was on a channel called The N, which is now known as TeenNick. The next year, she got a big role in the TV soap opera One Life to Live. She played a character named Layla Williamson from 2005 to 2010.
In 2010, Tika made her first movie appearance in Stomp the Yard: Homecoming. She also had a small part in the movie Salt. From 2011 to 2012, she had a repeating role in the comedy series The Game. She also appeared in the teen drama series Gossip Girl in 2011.
Big roles and movie success (2012–2015)
In 2012, Tika Sumpter played Delores "Dee" Anderson in the musical movie Sparkle. This movie was inspired by the famous music group The Supremes. She also sang on the movie's soundtrack.
In 2013, Tika starred in the Christmas comedy movie A Madea Christmas. After this, she got a main role in the TV show The Haves and the Have Nots. This show was very popular on the OWN channel. Tika played the character Candace Young from 2013 to 2021.
In 2014, Tika co-starred in the action-comedy movie Ride Along with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. This movie was a big success at the box office. She returned for the sequel, Ride Along 2, in 2016. Playing Michelle Obama and Sonic the Hedgehog (2016–present)
In 2016, Tika Sumpter played a young Michelle Obama in the movie Southside with You. This film was about the early romance between Barack and Michelle Obama. Tika also helped produce the movie. Critics praised her performance, saying she perfectly captured Michelle Obama's personality.
In 2018, Tika appeared in the crime drama film The Old Man & the Gun. She also starred in the comedy movie Nobody's Fool.
From 2019 to 2021, Tika starred in the ABC comedy series Mixed-ish. This show was a prequel to another popular series called Black-ish.
In 2020, Tika took on the role of Maddie Wachowski in the action-adventure comedy movie Sonic the Hedgehog. This movie was based on the famous video game. It was a huge hit! Personal life
Tika Sumpter has a daughter named Ella-Loren, who was born in October 2016. In 2017, Tika announced that she was engaged to her The Haves and the Have Nots co-star, Nicholas James. The couple got married in 2022.
