The South Coast Plain is a special natural area in England. It stretches along the southern coast. You can find it in the counties of East and West Sussex, and Hampshire.

What is the South Coast Plain?
The South Coast Plain is a "natural region." This means it's an area with similar landscapes, wildlife, and history. It has been given the official name National Character Area No. 126. This name comes from Natural England. They are a group that works to protect and improve England's natural environment.
Where is the South Coast Plain Located?
This coastal area covers about 52,245 hectares. That's a huge space! It forms a strip along the coast. This strip is between 2 and 16 kilometres wide. It starts near Hamble-le-Rice in Hampshire in the west. Then it goes all the way across West Sussex. It ends near Brighton in East Sussex in the east.
Important Towns and Cities
Many important places are found within the South Coast Plain. These include the cities of Brighton and Hove, Chichester, and Portsmouth. There's also the market town of Fareham. Other towns include the coastal town of Gosport. You can also find popular seaside resorts like Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, and Worthing.
What Borders the South Coast Plain?
The South Coast Plain has several interesting neighbours. To its west, across a body of water called Southampton Water, is the New Forest. To the northwest, you'll find the South Hampshire Lowlands. The South Downs hills are to its north and east. Finally, to the southwest, across the Solent (a strait of water), is the Isle of Wight.
