The South Fork Alsea River is a river in Oregon, a state in the United States. It flows into the Alsea River. The river starts northeast of Horton. This area is on the east side of the Central Oregon Coast Range.
The South Fork Alsea River flows mainly to the northwest. It continues until it reaches a spot near Alsea. Here, it meets the North Fork Alsea River. Together, they form the main part of the Alsea River.
This river is known as a good-sized stream. It is about 40 feet (12 m) wide on average. It is an excellent place to fish for wild cutthroat trout. You can also find steelhead fish here. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) takes care of much of the land around the river.

The Alsea Falls Recreation Area is a fun place to visit. It is located right along the river. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages this area.
What Can You Do at Alsea Falls?
The recreation area is open from May 1 to October 31 each year. It offers many things for visitors to enjoy. You can find campsites here for overnight stays. There are also day-use spots for picnics.
Each site has tent pads and fire rings. You will also find picnic tables, toilets, and drinking water. It is a great spot for camping with family and friends.
Hiking and Biking Trails
From the recreation area, you can explore many hiking trails. These trails wind through the beautiful forest. They lead to several amazing waterfalls.
If you love mountain biking, there is a nearby trail system. It is called the Fall Creek Trail system. It has about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) of trails. These routes are suitable for all skill levels.
