South Mountain is a natural landmark located in Greene County, New York. It stands proudly to the east of a small community called Haines Falls, New York. This mountain is part of a beautiful landscape in the Catskill Mountains region.

South Mountain is a notable peak in the area. It reaches an elevation of about 2,467 feet (752 meters) above sea level. From its slopes, you can see amazing views of the surrounding forests and valleys.

To the southwest of South Mountain, you'll find Roundtop Mountain. Another important peak nearby is High Peak. These mountains are all part of the same mountain range.
South Mountain also plays a role in the local water system. Water from the mountain flows in two main directions. To the south, it drains into Kaaterskill Creek. To the north, water flows into North-South Lake. This lake is a popular spot for outdoor activities.
