The History of Speed, Kansas
A post office, which is a place where you send and receive mail, first opened in Speed in 1895. It stayed open for many years until it closed in 1964. The community was named after James Speed. He was an important person who served as the United States Attorney General during the time of President Abraham Lincoln. The Attorney General is the main legal advisor to the government.
In 2008, something exciting happened in Speed! The famous toy car brand, Hot Wheels, held a special event there. It was part of their 40th Anniversary Cross-Country Road Trip. Speed was one of only six places in the entire USA chosen for this big event.
