Spencer Brook's History
Spencer Brook is one of the oldest communities in Isanti County. People started settling here in the late 1850s. Many of the first settlers were from the eastern United States. Some of them were even veterans who had fought in the American Civil War.
How Spencer Brook Got Its Name
The community was named after a man named Benjamin Nicholson Spencer. He lived from 1806 to 1881. Benjamin Spencer moved to Minnesota in 1854 from Pennsylvania. He was an important person in the early days of Spencer Brook Township. He worked as a judge, a carpenter, and a farmer.
Important Buildings
Today, Spencer Brook is home to a historic country school building. There is also the Able Hearts Community and Christian Counseling center, which used to be the Spencer Brook United Methodist Church. These buildings show the long history of the community.
