The Spicket River is a river that flows for about 17.7-mile-long (28.5 km). It is located in two United States states: New Hampshire and Massachusetts. This river is a "tributary" of the Merrimack River. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river. The Spicket River is part of the Gulf of Maine watershed. This means its water eventually flows into the Gulf of Maine. Sometimes, people spell the river's name "Spickett".

Where the Spicket River Starts

The Spicket River begins in Derry, New Hampshire. It starts at the end of a lake called Island Pond. From there, the river flows south.

Journey Through Towns

After starting in Derry, the Spicket River flows into Salem, New Hampshire. In Salem, it passes through a large body of water called the Arlington Mill Reservoir. The river continues its journey through Salem. Along this part of the river, you can see many suburban areas. These are places with lots of houses and neighborhoods.

The Spicket River then crosses into the state of Massachusetts. It enters the city of Methuen, Massachusetts. Here, the river drops quite a bit in height. It falls almost 100 feet (30 m) as it goes over several dams. Dams are barriers built across a river to control its flow.

Where the River Ends

Finally, the Spicket River reaches its end in Lawrence. Here, it flows into the larger Merrimack River.
