Spring Bluff is a small, quiet area in Queensland, Australia. It's part of the Toowoomba Region. In 2021, very few people lived there, or even no one at all!
Where is Spring Bluff?
Spring Bluff is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) north of Toowoomba city. You can get there by following the New England Highway. It's also right next to the town of Highfields.
The Story of Spring Bluff
Spring Bluff got its name from a special place: a railway station. This station was built way back in the 1860s. It was a very important stop for trains. Trains needed to stop here during their steep climb from Brisbane to nearby Toowoomba.
In 1890, the station was officially named Spring Bluff. This name came from the fresh spring water found nearby. It also came from a large sandstone "bluff," which is like a tall, steep cliff.
The Railway Station Today
The railway station stopped being used in August 1992. But it's still a very special place! The station and its beautiful gardens are protected because of their history. They are looked after by a group that includes the councils of Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley. Queensland Rail also helps, and they even run a cafe there.
In early 2011, there were big floods in Spring Bluff and a nearby area called Murphys Creek. Because of this, the station had to close for several months for repairs.
