The Battlehawks: A Team History
How the Team Started (2020)
On December 5, 2018, St. Louis was chosen as one of eight cities to get a new XFL team. Other cities included Seattle, Houston, and Dallas. On April 18, 2019, Jonathan Hayes became the team's first head coach. He used to coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.
The team's name, "Battlehawks," and their logo were shown on August 21, 2019. Their uniforms were revealed on December 3, 2019. The Battlehawks signed their first player, quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, on October 15, 2019.
The Battlehawks won their very first game on February 8, 2020. They beat the Dallas Renegades 15-9. Sadly, the rest of the 2020 XFL season was canceled on March 12, 2020. This happened because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team finished with 3 wins and 2 losses. On April 10, 2020, the XFL stopped operations, and all players and staff were let go.
New Owners and a Fresh Start (2023–Present)
On August 3, 2020, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Gerry Cardinale bought the XFL. They bought it for $15 million. This saved the league from being sold off. On April 13, 2022, Anthony Becht was hired as the new head coach. It was expected he would coach the St. Louis team.
On July 24, 2022, it was confirmed that a St. Louis XFL team would return. Anthony Becht was officially named the coach. On October 31, 2022, the XFL announced that the "Battlehawks" name would be back. The logo got a few small changes.
In the 2023 XFL season, the Battlehawks had a great record of 7 wins and 3 losses. They tied for second place in their division. Fans in St. Louis really love the team. The league president, Russ Brandon, said the Battlehawks would stay in St. Louis "for the very long haul."
Joining the United Football League (2024)
In September 2023, news came out that the XFL and the USFL were talking about joining together. On September 28, 2023, both leagues announced they planned to merge. This merger needed official approval.
In October 2023, the XFL applied for a trademark for the name "United Football League." On November 30, 2023, Dany Garcia announced that the merger was approved. They were planning a "combined season" to start on March 30, 2024. The merger officially happened on December 31, 2023. This created the new United Football League (UFL).

Battlehawks Team Rivalries
Vegas Vipers
The Battlehawks used to have a big rivalry with the Tampa Bay and Vegas Vipers. This rivalry ended in 2024 when the Vegas Vipers team stopped playing. The Battlehawks won both games they played against the Vipers.
DC Defenders
The Battlehawks also have a rivalry with the DC Defenders. The Defenders have won all three games against the Battlehawks so far. However, every game has been very close! Each game has helped decide which team was the best in their division at that time.
After their first game in 2023, some players got into a fight and were sent off the field. A week later, Battlehawks quarterback A. J. McCarron called it the "first XFL rivalry."
