History and Design
When Was St Barnabas Built?
Building St Barnabas Church started in 1900 and finished in 1909. It's made from red bricks, which are common in London. It also has stone details around the windows and edges.
What Does the Church Look Like?
The front of the church has three pointed sections, called gables. Along the side, there are strong arched supports called buttresses. Inside, the windows look like those from the late Gothic period. The main hall, called the nave, has beautiful arched doorways.
Special Features Inside
The church has some unique items. You can see two special candle holders shaped like angels. These are known as 'Comper angel' sconces, named after the architect. The door handles and locks are also very detailed. There's a stone font for baptisms and a pulpit from the 1600s. The church even has a bell from the 1500s!
In 1954, Ninian Comper added a beautiful stained glass window. If you look closely, you might spot his special strawberry design in the glass.
