History of St Margaret's Church
The church is also known as the Church of Saint Margaret of Antioch. It was built in 1851. The person who designed it was an architect named A B Higham. Building the church cost about £2,200 at that time.
The church was officially opened on October 31, 1851. This ceremony was led by the Bishop of Ripon, who was named Charles Longley.
This church replaced an older, smaller church building nearby. That older building was built way back in 1480. Inside the current church, there is a special stone monument. It has a Latin message that remembers Reverend Charles Udal, who was a priest there from 1750 to 1781. This monument is even older than the church building itself! The furniture you see inside the church today was added in the 1930s.
