History of St Margaret's Church
This church is also known as the Church of Saint Margaret of Antioch. It was built in 1851 by an architect named A B Higham. The church was officially opened on October 31, 1851, by the Bishop of Ripon, Charles Longley.
St Margaret's Church took the place of an older chapel that was built nearby in 1480. Inside the church, you can find a special stone monument above the north door. It has a Latin message remembering Reverend Charles Udal, who was a priest there from 1750 to 1781. This monument is older than the current church building. Much of the furniture inside the church was added in the 1930s.
