Building History

How St Saviour's Was Built

The first stone for St Saviour's Church was put in place on June 7, 1875. A kind person named Rev Frederick George Burnaby gave the church as a gift. He used to be a rector in a place called Barkestone-le-Vale.

The church was designed by a famous architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott. He designed it in a style called "Early English." This style was popular in the 13th century. The building work was done by a company called Messrs Osborne Brothers. The church was officially opened on June 21, 1877. The Bishop of Peterborough led the special ceremony.

Recent Events

Sadly, on October 28, 2023, a part of the church building, called the annexe, was damaged by fire.
