Stanley Mission is a special place in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a First Nations community located in the beautiful boreal forest. The community sits right on the banks of the Churchill River.
Stanley Mission is about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of La Ronge. It is also 305 kilometers (190 miles) north of Prince Albert. You can reach it by driving on Highway 915.
The community is made up of two parts. One part is the northern settlement of Stanley Mission, which has about 124 people. The other part is Stanley 157, an Indian reserve that belongs to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. About 1,634 people live on the reserve.

The Oldest Building in Saskatchewan
Across the river from the main part of Stanley Mission, you can find the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. This church was built a long time ago, between 1854 and 1860. It is known as the oldest building still standing in all of Saskatchewan!
How Stanley Mission Got Its Name
The community of Stanley Mission was officially started in 1851. Its name comes from a place called Stanley Park. This was a large house in England where the wife of Reverend Robert Hunt lived. He was an Anglican missionary who worked in the area.
Who Lives in Stanley Mission?
In 2021, a count of people showed that 104 people lived in the settlement of Stanley Mission. They lived in 34 homes. This was a small increase from 2016, when 95 people lived there.

Stanley Mission has many services for its residents. There are three stores where you can buy things. The community also has a band office and a health office. Kids go to elementary and high schools right in the community. There is even a place for people to continue their learning after high school.

The community has a hall for gatherings and an arena. In the arena, people can go ice skating and play hockey.
Exploring the Outdoors
Stanley Mission is a great starting point for exploring the northern parts of Lac La Ronge Provincial Park. Many people visit for fishing trips at the tourist camps nearby. It is also part of a major route for canoeing. Long ago, this route was used by voyageurs for trading furs with companies like the Hudson's Bay Company and North West Company.
Natural Wonders Nearby
Stanley Mission is the closest place with road access to Nistowiak Falls. These falls are some of the tallest in Saskatchewan! You can also find ancient pictograph sites close by. These are old rock paintings made by Indigenous people.
About 5 kilometers (3 miles) north of the settlement of Missinipe, you will find Otter Rapids. Missinipe is another community along Highway 102. It is also the Woodland Cree name for the Churchill River.
