Starr Lake (also known as lac Starr in French) is a freshwater lake in Quebec, Canada. It's located in a wild area called Belle-Rivière, which is part of the Lac-Saint-Jean-Est Regional County Municipality. This lake is very important because it's where the Moncouche River starts.

Starr Lake is found just north of the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve. It's also close to the border between two big regions: Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Capitale-Nationale.

Many forest roads are around Starr Lake. These roads are used for logging and for fun activities like hiking or fishing. Logging is the main business here, and tourism comes in second.

The lake usually freezes over in early December. It stays frozen until late March. It's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.

Where is Starr Lake Located?

Starr Lake is nestled among mountains. It's a natural lake, meaning it formed on its own. The lake is about 3.0 kilometres (1.9 mi) long and 1.0 kilometre (0.62 mi) wide. It sits at an elevation of 491 metres (1,611 ft) above sea level.

The lake's water flows out from its southeast side. This exit point is at the end of a narrow bay that is about 0.8 kilometres (0.50 mi) long.

Nearby Waterways

Starr Lake is connected to many other rivers and lakes. Here are some of the main ones nearby:

How Water Flows from Starr Lake

The water from Starr Lake flows into the Moncouche River. This river then travels about 14.7 kilometres (9.1 mi) south. After that, the water joins the Métabetchouane River, which flows north for about 83.9 kilometres (52.1 mi) until it reaches the big Lac Saint-Jean.

From Lac Saint-Jean, the water continues its journey. It crosses the lake for about 22.8 kilometres (14.2 mi) northeast. Then, it flows into the Saguenay River via La Petite Décharge. The Saguenay River carries the water for about 172.3 kilometres (107.1 mi) all the way to Tadoussac. Finally, the water from Starr Lake mixes with the huge Saint Lawrence estuary, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean!

Naming of Starr Lake
