Huard Lake is a natural lake in Quebec, Canada. The Huard River flows through it. This lake is part of a larger water system that includes the Ha! Ha! River and the Saguenay River. You can find Huard Lake in the small town of Ferland-et-Boilleau. This area is known as the Le Fjord-du-Saguenay Regional County Municipality.
Forest roads lead to Huard Lake. These roads connect to Route 381, which follows the Ha! Ha! River. These roads are used for activities like forestry and outdoor tourism. Forestry is the main economic activity in the area, followed by tourism.
The surface of Huard Lake is usually frozen from early December to late March. It is generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.
Where is Huard Lake?
Huard Lake is located in the southeastern part of Ferland-et-Boilleau. It is about 7.2 km (4.5 mi) north of the border between the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Capitale-Nationale regions.

- North side: Huard River, Ha! Ha! River, Berger Lake, Belle Truite Lake, Lac des Cèdres, Rivière des Cèdres, Bras de Ross, Pierre River.
- East side: Lac Charny, Lac de la Grosse Cabane, Ruisseau John, Cami River, Rivière à la Catin.
- South side: Ha! Ha! River, Lake Ha! Ha!, Petit lac Ha! Ha!, Rivière à Pierre, Malbaie River, Cruche River, Porc-Épic River.
- West side: Pierre River, Ha! Ha! River, Lake Ha! Ha!, Rivière à Mars, Bras d'Hamel.
Lake Shape and Size
Huard Lake is shaped like a crescent moon, open towards the southwest. It is about 2.8 km (1.7 mi) long and 0.5 km (0.31 mi) wide at its widest point. The lake is 401 m (1,316 ft) above sea level. There is a marshy area around where Lac Charny and Lac de la Grosse Cabane flow into it.
The mouth of Huard Lake (where the water flows out) is located to the northwest. Here are some distances from the lake's mouth:
- 2.9 km (1.8 mi) east of the village of Boileau.
- 4.0 km (2.5 mi) southwest of Lac Charny.
- 3.5 km (2.2 mi) southeast of the dam at the mouth of Lake Ha! Ha!.
- 6.0 km (3.7 mi) northeast of a mountain peak that is 781 km (485 mi) high.
- 5.5 km (3.4 mi) southeast of where the Huard River meets the Ha! Ha! River.
- 26.6 km (16.5 mi) southeast of where the Ha! Ha! River flows into Baie des Ha! Ha!.
Water Flow
From the mouth of Huard Lake, the water flows:
- Down the Huard River for 5.9 km (3.7 mi) towards the northwest.
- Then down the Ha! Ha! River for 29.1 km (18.1 mi) towards the northwest.
- It then crosses the Baie des Ha! Ha! for 11 km (6.8 mi) towards the northeast.
- Finally, it flows down the Saguenay River for 93.1 km (57.8 mi) east to Tadoussac. At Tadoussac, the Saguenay River flows into the St. Lawrence River.
Name of the Lake
The name "Huard Lake" was officially recognized on January 9, 1986. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is a group in Quebec that names places.
