A special statue of Alan Turing was made in 2007. It is located at Bletchley Park in England. The statue is part of an exhibit that celebrates Alan Turing's life and work. It was created by the artist Stephen Kettle using a type of rock called slate. An American businessman named Sidney Frank asked for the statue to be made.

Discovering the Alan Turing Statue

This unique statue honors Alan Turing, a very important person in history. He was born in 1912 and passed away in 1954. The statue helps people remember his amazing contributions.

Materials Used for the Sculpture

The artist, Stephen Kettle, chose slate for the statue. This special rock came from North Wales. The sculptor learned that Alan Turing used to visit North Wales for holidays when he was a child and also when he was an adult. The slate was taken from the Llechwedd quarry, which is near a place called Blaenau Ffestiniog.

What the Statue Shows

The statue shows Alan Turing sitting down. He is looking at a German Enigma machine. This machine was used to send secret messages during World War II. Turing is wearing a jacket, but his clothes look a little bit messy on purpose. This might show his focus on his work rather than his appearance.

Celebrating Alan Turing's Legacy

The statue helps people remember Alan Turing's important work. He was a brilliant codebreaker. This means he was very good at figuring out secret codes.

Statue's Public Display

In 2012, the statue became a key part of a new exhibit at Bletchley Park. This was a special year because it was 100 years since Alan Turing was born. Alan Turing's nephew, Sir John Dermot Turing, came to the opening of this new exhibit. He even posed for pictures with the statue.
